30 days to go

Hello everyone, and welcome to read my blog! I decided to create this site to share my Australian adventures. I'm writing in English so that most of my friends can read this blog. I'm going to be an au pair in Sydney for four months, starting in September. This first post is only going to be about me and my thoughts on going so far away from home all by myself. I have 30 days left here in Finland and I still have a lot to do.

So, here's some facts about me:

  • I'm 19 years old
  • I live in Tampere, Finland
  • I just finished the Finnish upper secondary school
  • I got into a uni to study a MSc, but I declined it because I really need a gap year
  • I work as a ballet teacher and a nanny
  • During summertime I work at an amusement park
  • I have plenty of experience working with children, so it was quite easy to find a family (I'll make another post about that)
  • Australia and New Zealand have always been my dream destinations because of the wildlife, nature and the people there
  • I've danced ballet, show dance and modern dance for 14 years and I'm planning to dance in Sydney, too
  • I love meeting new people and trying out new sports - definitely going to try some surfing or scuba diving!
  • For those who wonder, I take all of my pictures with my huawei p20 pro
This is me before my friends confirmation party

Some of my thoughts:
I'm actually feeling pretty scared about going to the other side of the world all by myself. It's going to be frightening but at the same time the best time of my life. Some of my friends think it's very rare to do this without any help, but that's my way. I decided not to go with an organization as I didn't want to pay extra. The agency only can cost you 900, and then you have to pay for visa, flights, insurance... The downside about going alone is that I can't have a 24/7 backup, and getting friends can be a little harder. I still think going alone was best for me because I like to make decisions on my own.

I chose Sydney because I like the "big city vibes". Sydney is at the same time a real beach paradise but also a place for urban lifestyle lovers. I feel very excited about what Sydney has to offer. I want to make some memories and a lot of new friends.

I love taking photos of sunsets

Next post is going to be about how I found my family and what else has to be done before the trip ~ Hilda
